Student Mentoring
Do you visit schools as an expert, or are you preparing for your first visit? In two one-hour webinars, you will build your mentor's toolkit: what to bring from your practice, how to support a student team and how to work with the teacher.

- Select useful stories and experiences from your practice.

Who you will work with
You will work in an open group of people from different backgrounds.
Your experience in the service of students
A clearer role at school
Distinguish what you bring and what the teacher provides. Choose experiences and stories that could be useful to students.
A mentor's toolkit for a school visit
Think through questions, supporting motivation and feedback. Take away ideas for what to agree before a visit, observe during it and reflect on afterwards.
Two meetings on the mentor's role
The seminar builds on the Mentor's Toolkit discussion webinars. It draws on JA Student Company and situations experts encounter when working with students.
-
Your role and mentoring resources
Discuss differences between schools and businesses, the teacher's role and your contribution. Focus on your personal story, questions, motivation and preparation for a school visit.

Supporting a student team
Explore team agreements, student involvement, feedback and reflection. We also discuss situations where a team gets stuck, someone dominates or someone does not participate.
Webinar 2 · 1 hour
What belongs in a mentor's toolkit
We relate the approaches to concrete work with students. In discussion, you consider when to use them and how to talk about them with the teacher.
A personal story
Choose an experience that brings practice closer to students and shows the purpose of their work.
Questions and listening
Distinguish when to offer expert advice and when a question can help students find their own answer.
Team agreements
Discuss collaboration rules, division of work and involving students in shared decisions.
Feedback and Reflection
Consider how to identify successes, mistakes and lessons for the next attempt with students.
The seminar helps prepare your role; you agree the specific teaching arrangements and division of responsibilities with the teacher.
You know the practice. The teacher knows the class.
The workshop is for entrepreneurs, managers and other experts who visit schools or guide a student team. We also address how to align aims with the teacher, divide roles and reflect on the session together.
Your role as an expert
You bring experience, stories and a practitioner's perspective. You help students explore ideas, identify lessons and find the next step without taking over their project.
Working with the teacher
The teacher knows the students and school conditions. Before the visit, clarify together what the team is dealing with, who will lead each activity and how you will exchange feedback afterwards.
Two one-hour webinars
Adaptivio facilitates the online meetings and discussion. We clarify dates, price, participant numbers and terms before confirming participation.
What to bring
Consider which programme or school you are joining and what interests you in the mentor role. If you already work with students, bring a situation from your experience.
What to agree with the school
Before the visit, clarify aims, student needs and roles with the teacher. Afterwards, return together to what worked and what to change next time.
Questions before booking
Is the seminar only for JA Student Company mentors?
It draws on that experience, but the topics also apply to other school visits and student projects. We will discuss the specific context according to participants.
Do I need teaching experience?
No. The seminar helps you understand the expert's role at school and prepare to work with the teacher; it does not assume you will take over their work.
Is this a practical leadership workshop?
Here, we focus on mentoring students through an online seminar and discussion. The experiential four-hour workshop for guiding adults is called Mentoring and Knowledge Sharing.
Do I have to lead the whole class myself?
You agree roles with the teacher according to the programme. In Entrepreneurship Day, for example, the expert consults on ideas while the teacher leads learning activities, organisation and timing.
